Musical Translation

Visual structures become tonal or harmonic systems. Map image data to musical scales, generate harmonic textures, and create ambient compositions from visual patterns.

Distorted grid

Listen for changes in pitch and emphasis as the grid narrows and widens.

Each translation interprets a 64 × 64 image sample over 8 seconds. Download your sound before leaving.

How this mapping works

Image columns become notes. Brightness and color balance select scale degrees and velocity. Scale Mode selects pentatonic (below 33⅓), minor (33⅓ to below 66⅔), or major (66⅔–100). Rhythm Density changes event count; Texture Weight changes note length. MIDI uses the same note events as playback.

Column 1 / 64 · time 0.000 s · brightness 55.8%

Event 1 / 25: MIDI 57, 220.0 Hz, velocity 61, length 0.148 s.

Brightness and color balance select the pitch; brightness controls velocity. Pattern symmetry blends mirrored column brightness for velocity. Image-to-sound translation does not preserve all visual information.

Sound settings

Duration stretches the image scan and note spacing. Use Audio finishing for channel placement, output gain and loop edge fades.

ROTRoot Note
20

Higher values raise the pitch range.

DYNDynamics
48

Higher values make the sound louder.

HRMHarmonic Layers
55

Higher values strengthen the added upper tone.

RHYRhythm Density
70

Higher values add more notes in the same duration.

TXRTexture Weight
25

Higher values lengthen each note.

Audio finishing

Edge fading brings both ends to silence without changing duration. It softens the join but may create a rhythmic dip. MIDI and note diagrams describe the original sequence before audio finishing.
