GETTING STARTED

Begin a research study

Translate, listen and save. Then explore where the study takes you.

Explore without an account: upload an image, choose a library source, generate artwork or adapt a gallery study. Listen in one of the four core modes, adjust settings and download. Uploaded previews stay local; generated and gallery sources have public links. Guest experiments are not saved. Sign in for saved studies, comparisons, collections, gallery publishing, editions, print tools and the additional labs.

  1. 01

    Choose an image

Bring your own image or choose a library preview. Open one of the four core modes to begin.

    Browse images
  2. 02

    Listen and change one thing

Start at a comfortable volume. Change one parameter and listen again. The mapping inspector shows how the image shapes the sound.

    Open Spectral
  3. 03

    Preserve your experiment

Choose Save Study and add a title. Each study keeps a private 64 × 64 sample and settings. Leave audio preservation on to save the exact WAV and manifest.

    View saved studies
  4. 04

    Compare and curate

Compare two to four studies, or try blind listening. Arrange up to 24 in a private collection. Download a collection draft to continue on another device.

    Open study archive
  5. 05

    Share a study

Publish a preserved source sample, WAV and settings to the public Study Gallery with your credit. Confirm permission to share; your private notebook is not included. Browse or adapt other studies without changing their originals.

    Explore the Study Gallery
  6. 06

    Prepare an edition

Choose studies, then review the text and attachments. Unlike the public gallery, published editions are available to signed-in app users only.

    Open Publishing Studio
  7. 07

    Export or print

Download a study bundle, prepare a waveform print, source card or label, or make a book from a saved collection.

    Open print tools

Reference & help covers modes, exports and troubleshooting.

What you can explore

Four image-to-sound mappings, an image library, abstract image generation, a public Study Gallery, sampled-pixel encoding and recovery, saved research, recipes, comparisons, collections, editions and print exports. Begin with an image and follow what you notice; a research question is optional. Live and Future Lab workspaces remain experimental.

Primary translations use a 64 × 64 sample over 1–120 seconds and export native 48 kHz / 24-bit WAV, with optional stereo finishing. Cipher encodes a 128 × 128 RGBA sample with a checksum; Reconstruction recovers that sample, not an image from arbitrary audio. Generated artwork can be downloaded as enlarged 4K or 6K PNGs, without new detail. Full-resolution original preservation in studies, FLAC/MP3 exports and long-form recording remain planned. Study books and atlases export printable HTML for browser printing or Save as PDF; native book PDF generation is not included.

Your images and research

Uploaded originals stay on your device; the picker makes a local preview up to 1280 pixels. Saved studies always keep a private 64 × 64 sample; WAV and manifest preservation is optional. Recipes store their source preview. The image generator sends your prompt to an AI service and returns a public image link; AI Interpretation sends your chosen image when you request analysis. Generated results remain in the same tab for up to 24 hours, not in your saved library. Generation allows three attempts per browser per day and 30 across the site, including failures, resetting at midnight UTC. Clear batch queues on shared devices to remove retained previews.

New studies are private by default, with administrator access for support. Publishing to the gallery immediately shares public copies of the preserved sample, sound, settings and your chosen description, with contributor credit; private notebook text is excluded. Adaptations keep the credit and leave the original unchanged. Removing an entry does not recall public files or downloaded copies. Publishing an edition instead shares its selected snapshot with signed-in app users. Research bundles include saved notebook text; review downloads before sharing them.

Keep your research moving

Open Research Overview to review preserved-file references, provenance gaps and related studies. Counts describe loaded metadata; they do not verify the files.

Record questions and observations in a study notebook. Download current notebook copies your writing, including unsaved edits. Collection drafts can be exported and imported with a review before applying. Use Check selected study access before creating a collection. Collection and edition editors can recover unfinished drafts in the same browser tab.

Browser recovery lasts up to 24 hours and may disappear when the tab closes. Save for access across devices. If another tab changed a notebook, review the saved version first. Bundles contain saved notebook text; notebook downloads contain current editor text.

If something goes wrong

No sound? Try playback again and check device volume. If saving fails, keep the workspace open and retry the same save. For AI problems, try another image; core translations work without AI. Report checksum failures without changing the archive. Keep downloaded copies of important work.
